Apply to be a Creative Reuse Teaching Artist!

Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse is looking for teaching artists to facilitate at various outreach programs in the Pittsburgh region.  We are looking for teaching artists who are comfortable and experienced in working with people from all backgrounds and who understand the positive impact of inspiring creativity, conservation, and community engagement through reuse.

Applicants should demonstrate understanding of contemporary trends in education, particularly in the areas of art, environment, and making. Previous teaching experience is preferred. Teaching artists of various disciplines are encouraged to apply – (visual arts, STEAM, Makers, and Social Practitioners). Having experience and proficiency in reusing materials is definitely a plus. Starting wage is $13/hr. This is an independent contractor position.   • Teaching experience preferred.
  • Creates or has created art pieces involving reusable materials, found objects, upcycling, and/or other materials relating to reuse art.
  • Knowledge and experience with reducing, reusing, and recycling.
  • Involvement with artistic communities and organizations is a plus.
  • Having a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation is also a plus, for the sake of transporting materials and reaching outreach program locations.

Work Ethic:

  • Punctual for meetings, workshops, etc.
  • Fully devotes time and energy to students when leading workshops.
  • Advocate for Creative Reuse at all times – contributing positively to your community and being environmentally conscious.
  • Represents Creative Reuse when facilitating workshops
  • Does not use Creative Reuse connections to self-promote in ways that would result in taking opportunities away from Creative Reuse.
  • Clearly communicates with Creative Education staff, responds in a timely manner to emails and phone calls, accurately reports workshop data, communicates in advance if unable to attend a workshop, etc.


  • Patience and understanding for students, fellow teaching artists, Creative Reuse staff and members, and other members of our community.
  • Team player and works well with others in order to strengthen our community and further our mission.
  • Accepting and respectful of all demographics and lifestyles.
  • Supportive of Creative Reuse by making attending events, actively engaging in social media, and/or promoting Creative Reuse in outside social circles.

  • Must have (or obtain) state and federal clearances for working with children
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds
